Last week we talked about the importance of self-discipline and the role it plays in truly loving ourselves.
This week, I wanted to dive a little deeper by adding into the mix, self-care. There is so much talk about self-care these days. Is it manicures and massages or is it journaling and exercise? Well, I think it's all of the above (and then some). Each serve a purpose and have a place! But the question is why is self-care so important, and how does it play a part in discipline?
For starters, self-care is acknowledging your self-worth. Plain and simple. If you don't view yourself in a positive way, it's unlikely you'll take care of yourself in a positive way, either. Like the example I gave last week, if we value our health fully, we wouldn't just try to eat nutritious meals and exercise a few times a year. Rather, we would make choices on a daily basis that aligned with being healthy. Therefore, we wouldn't look at self-discipline as a form of punishment; rather, an act of self-care.
Think of self-care as your responsibility to your future self. What we choose to do today could move us forward or push us backwards tomorrow. If you have trouble staying consistent, continue to ask yourself "would my future self be proud of this decision?" or "does this align with my values?"
If you want to take a step forward today, choose something small that you can commit to doing consistently that your present and future self will thank you for. I'd love for you to reply back and let me know what it is!
